Don holds bachelor and master of music education
degrees, and is a lifetime member of Phi Mu Alpha Professional Music
Fraternity and Blue Key National Honor Fraternity. He is a past
chairman of the American Choral Directors Association Community
Chorus Division for Illinois. In 1982, Don founded the Peoria Area Civic Chorale in central Illinois. During his 12-year tenure as conductor/executive director, several splinter groups were formed, including youth and high school choruses, a 25-voice ensemble and a professional quartet. Under his leadership, the chorale played to more than 20,000 people per year, including regular-season and special performances, as well as several major works with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra. |

Don appeared throughout Illinois as a guest conductor of district
and all-state choruses, various college and public school choirs,
and the Peoria Symphony Orchestra. He also served as an adjudicator
for numerous solo, ensemble and organization contests. Prior to the
Civic Chorale position, Don built a band program that won hundreds
of state and regional awards in both concert and marching
competitions, including two Illinois state Class A marching band
championships. As often as possible, Don visits his sons and their families. Mike and his wife, Lisa, with daughters Delaney and Riley and son Trey, live in Charlotte, NC, where Mike is a partner with KPMG. Matt and his wife, Holly, and daughter, Ansley and son Drew, live in Greenville, SC, where Matt is a physical therapist with St. Francis Hospital. |
